I’ve been playing a lot of World of Warcraft now that the Midnight expansion has been out for a little while. There’s been tons to do. The story has been engaging and I’ve found myself enjoying all of the side quests and smaller things to discover in each zone. So much so that I’ve done 100% of the quests in Eversong, Zul’aman, and Harandar. I haven’t finished the Voidstorm yet because, honestly, it felt too hostile, gray, and uninviting. That’s probably the point of the zone design-wise, but it’s a real turn off for me. I will get to the rest of that zone at some point, just not right now!

This is the first expansion that I’ve actually maxed out my fishing skill. It’s a relaxing bit of gameplay that I can do while watching something else. It’s also an activity that makes quite a bit of gold when you’re fishing each pool around a zone and doing some mining and herb gathering along the way.

I’ve tried to optimize my fishing setup by creating a helper macro. It changes the game’s volume settings so its easy to hear the bobber. It also makes sure all my fishing gear is equiped before a cast. All I needed to do was create a equipment set called “Fish”. Before this, I had a bad habit of not remembering to equip these things and every extra stat boost counts! Combining this macro with a keybound interact key means that there is no more clicking needed to fish. Just one button to use the macro cast and another to interact with the bobber.

-- Bind this to some easy to reach key
/sit
/equipset Fish
/run SetCVar("Sound_MusicVolume", 0) SetCVar("Sound_AmbienceVolume", 0) SetCVar("Sound_DialogVolume", 0) SetCVar("Sound_SFXVolume", 1) SetCVar("Sound_MasterVolume", 1)
/cast Fishing

One extra bit of interesting info that I’ve found is that the Blood Hunter fish do not attack you when you’re sitting. You don’t need to waste your fish making the Blood Hunter Wards. Sell them instead!
